Camp Recovery Website Guidelines

Adopted October 2007 – Revised November 2007

Guidelines for Camp Recovery Website

In any given year the Camp Recovery Committee may decide if it wants a website.

If so, the following are guidelines for such a website.

Objective

The primary objective of the Camp Recovery website is to provide potential campers with information about Camp Recovery. The Camp Recovery website will use the ACA 12 Steps, 12 Traditions and 12 Concepts as the guiding principles for maintaining and developing all website content and guidelines.

Domain Name

Camp Recovery owns two domain names:  www.camprecoveryinfo.com and www.camprecovery.org. The Camp Recovery Committee is the final authority on its use and content. The website files are located on server space that are paid for by the Camp Recovery Committee for the campers they serve. (Tradition 7)

Problems associated with the website shall be resolved by the Website Coordinator, a majority vote of the Camp Recovery Committee or an ad hoc website committee (which can be formed at any time at the request of the Camp Recovery Committee).

Website Coordinator

In the years that Camp Recovery has a website, the Website Coordinator will be a member of the Camp Recovery Committee serving a term of service as described in the bylaws for all Camp Recovery Committee members. (Tradition 9)

The Website Coordinator is responsible for the following:

1. Maintains and updates the website content on a timely basis.
2. Regularly reports to the Camp Recovery Committee regarding all website changes and activity.
3.  May delegate editorial responsibility for the actual maintenance of the page(s) to an outside service or individual with expertise in HTML writing and editing, subject to the approval of the Camp Recovery Committee. (Tradition 8)
4. Acts as a liaison between the Camp Recovery Committee and the web host and/or any outside services related to web development or maintenance.
5. Makes sure the website hosting fees, and annual domain name registration are current, and communicates with the Treasurer for payment for those services.
6. Assures that at least two other persons on the Camp Recovery Committee have the passwords to all areas of the website and domain name.
7. Regularly reports feedback and resolution of issues regarding of the website content to the Camp Recovery Committee.
8. Makes recommendations to the Chairman for placement on the agenda and the Camp Recovery Committee regarding further Internet services that may be offered to the campers of Camp Recovery.
9. Acts as Chairperson for any regular Website Committee that may be formed.

Website Continuity

The Website Coordinator shall provide the Chairman and Treasurer of the Camp Recovery Committee with the addresses and passwords required for access to the camprecoveryinfo.com server files and the domain redirection service, if any. In addition, the Website Coordinator shall attempt to enlist a competent backup Website assistant who will also be given the same addresses and passwords. It is suggested that passwords be updated annually.

General Content

The general content for the website will be information about Camp Recovery. There will be no advertisements or commercial affiliations on the website. Large image files will be avoided, in an effort to limit download time. Obscure and difficult to read fonts and backgrounds will be avoided. The slogan “Keep it Simple” is suggested.

Links

1.      A separate web page with links to local 12 step service-structure websites, conventions or functions may be made with the qualification under the auspices of non-affiliation and co-operation and Tradition 6. The following local service structures may be linked: ACA World Services, ACA Los Angeles, ACA Orange County, World Services CoDA, The Valley CoDA Community (TVCC), CoDA Los Angeles, CoDA Orange County, CoDA Desert Communities, CoDA San Diego, and CoDA Bay Area.

2.      Links may be made to the location where Camp Recovery is held and mapping services for the purpose of information for campers, with the qualification under the auspices of non-affiliation with that location.

3.      Links may not be made to any individual websites.

The Website Coordinator is authorized to exercise their judgment in providing links to other web sites in accordance with these guidelines. This judgment may be over-ridden and links may be added or deleted by a simple majority vote at a Camp Recovery Committee meeting.

Anonymity

Tradition 11: Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, T.V. and films.

Photographs of faces and/or full names of committee members or campers will not be used on the website. The personal telephone number or email addresses of a committee member may be shown only with the explicit documented (written or email) permission of the committee member.  Any page that includes such personal information must include a conspicuous disclaimer: “Contact information is confidential and to be used for Camp Recovery related purposes only.”  When requesting such permission, the Website Coordinator should advise the committee member that risks are involved: they should only consent if they are prepared to handle the impact of “spam” and viruses. Non-personal email addresses will be the primary means of directing communication (for instance, to obtain information about camp, a person may email the Website Coordinator or other email address set up for Camp Recovery general correspondence). Files of flyers for events posted on the website will be edited to remove last names and phone numbers except where such permission is given. Forms for registration and donations may include mailing addresses but the use of P.O. Boxes for general camp correspondence is recommended.
